The Woman Behind the Work

Parul Bhandari is a proud 1st generation, Indian-American, born in the US. She grew up far from her roots and heritage in Canton, Ohio. Growing up, she had her Indian community and culture thanks to her parents, while also being a minority in her Catholic and public schools, which fed into her collective interest in cultures and religions.

From the beginning, though, Parul has been a writer. She wrote stories about her experiences starting very young, with her first unpublished chapter book. As she grew older, she wrote poetry in college, scientific writing in grad school, business writing as an employee, and continued on her path today.

Today, her work reflects her collective Indo-American identity, drawing from family, friendships, and cultures both inherited and adopted. Through her writing, she strives to preserve these experiences for future generations. She also works as a consultant, author, and speaker through her company, CustomerXSuccess.

There's a particular kind of childhood that doesn't fit neatly into one map. My goal is to write stories that reflect this blended upbringing, living in multiple worlds and experiencing culture in many different forms.

Beyond the Work

Parul is the oldest of 4 children, and a woman born in a culture where women were often oppressed, but she is very lucky to have had a mother who was educated and an entrepreneur (her role model in this work) and a father who encouraged her to be educated and independent.

Parul lives in Chicago with her family, where storytelling has become a shared passion. Her son, Jaiyen, has published two books of his own: Travel with Us: Our Family Vacation to Mexico and The Lonely Spaceship’s Big Journey, available through Inner Peace Press.
